The African athletes dominated the 15th edition of the Porto Marathon, won by the Ugandan Robert Chemonges with a new record. José Sousa, from Casaense, and Rosa Madureira, from Penafiel, were the best Portuguese athletes.
Chemonges set a record for the 42,195 kilometers of the race, with the time of 2:09.05 hours, beating the previous record obtained in 2011 by 46 seconds, which belonged to the Kenyan Philemoh Baaru with the time of 2:09.51. The Ugandan athlete surpassed Oliver Irabaruta, from Burundi (2:09.48 hours - better time than the previous record), and the Ethiopian Fikadu Kebede (2:10.41), second and third places, respectively.
