Angola's Karina Neto wins world championship

Seven-year-old Karina Neto has become the jiu-jitsu world champion (Brazilian version, children) this Saturday

The athlete, who represents Escola Luneto Power Gym, beat Márcia Mascarenhas (Brazil), Angop reports. Karina Neto is also the African champion, a title obtained in March. The event is taking place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and this was her world championship debut.

Angola also bagged the bronze medal in the same category, with Kuamy Manuel (Escola B.JJ Matilha) defeating Russia's Ivan Shevchuk (Sibirsky Bars).

Angola will compete again on Sunday (two athletes) and Monday (four athletes). Overall, there are 28 Angolan athletes competing in the various categories - adults, master, children, and youth.

According to Angop, Victor dos Santos - number 1 in the ranking of the jiu-jitsu international federation in 2018/2019 - is not in the competition venue because his registration is still being processed. With 840 points, Victor dos Santos (Academia "Z1", "light purple belt" 76 kg category), is also the leader of the African ranking.

Victor has won several international competition in 2018/2019, including the African Championship in South Africa and Abu Dhabi's Grand Slam in March. In the same month was also runner-up in an international competition in Malaga (Spain).
