Bruno Fernando becomes the first Angolan athlete to play in the NBA after being ranked number 34 in the 'Draft', which was held Friday night in New York.
After the first 30 candidates were selected, the Angolan player was drafted in the second round by the Atlanta Hawks (via Philadelphia). However, players that have been selected in this round have yet to secure a contract. Bruno Fernando, who turns 21 in August, delivered excellent performances for Maryland University this year and was one of five Kareen Abdul Jabbar award nominees for top center.
