Portugal thrashed Switzerland 8-0 to claim a fifth win in five games in the Women's European roller hockey championship and will discuss the trophy with the four-times title-holder Spain, on Saturday. In Mealhada, Aveiro, Spain also maintained their row of triumphs by beating Germany 10-2, being a draw short of securing the title by having a better goal difference than Portugal (55-4 against 38-5).
In the penultimate day of the European Championship, the candidates again did not disappoint, easily winning their respective games. The Portuguese team, seeking to repeat the titles of 1997, 1999 and 2001, felt more difficult than the Spanish team and, at the end of the first half, beat the hosts only 1-0, with a goal by Ana Catarina Ferreira. In the second half, the accuracy was higher and the goals kept coming. Marlene Sousa, the best scorer of the event, added three more goals to her personal record, Ana Catarina Ferreira also scored a hat trick and Maria Sofia Silva scored a double.
