The city council of the Brazilian municipality ordered the 'immediate closing down' of Vasco da Gama's training facilities.
The mayor's decision was based on inspections conducted in sports centers after the fire that erupted last week at a Flamengo base camp accommodation, which resulted in the death of ten boys and the wounding of three others.
In addition to Vasco da Gama, the Brazilian police also closed the training center of Botafogo club, also in Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday, and, the day before, they had closed the structure of Palmeiras, in São Paulo.
Vasco da Gama has explained, however, that the training center that was closed down has no accommodations.
'The club complies with the decision of the city and undertakes to do the necessary adjustments to reopen the training center in the shortest time possible', the managers of the sport training center stated. They added that the municipality should have 'granted a minimum period' to carry out the 'required adjustments' in question' without having to prevent access to the facilities.
