Italian Marcello Lippi surprised everyone when he announced his resignation as coach of the Chinese national team on Thursday (14).
The 71-year-old coach resigned at the press conference, following a 2-1 defeat against Syria, in Dubai, for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Lippi was furious at the conference and took responsibility for the team's poor display before announcing his resignation.
"I don't want to talk about this game. A team must put everything on the field. The tactics of the head coach must be put to practice.
If a player is afraid of losing the game, there is no fighting spirit, desire, courage. It's my responsibility, despite defeating Guam and the Maldives, the team against which we played today was better, more coordinated and organized than we were.
