Player transfers hit a new $5.4 billion record

Cristiano Ronaldo's was the most notable transfer this summer.

Overall, 182 of the 211 federations affiliated with FIFA reported transfers during the latest transfer season.

The latest player transfer season, from June to early September, involved a record sum of $5.44 billion (about R$22.2 billion), covering 8,401 new deals, FIFA reported yesterday.

FIFA has also confirmed a new record for transfers involving the top five leagues: Germany, England, Spain, France and Italy. This represents a 6.6% increase, from $3.9 billion last year to $4.2 billion during the 2018 transfer season (June 1st to September 1st). In 2016, player transfers in these five markets involved $2.7 billion.
