Former national manager Carlos Queiroz to take over Colombia squad

Former Portugal national manager Carlos Queiroz is set to take over Colombia's national squad, that country's football federation announced in a statement.

"The Colombian Football Federation informs that, on Thursday, professor Carlos Queiroz will be officially presented as a new technical director of the Colombian main national team," read a note posted on the federation"s official website on Wednesday.

Queiroz, who led Portugal"s under-20 team to victory in the 1989 and 1991 world championships and later worked at Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, had until January led managed Iran"s national team, who were knocked out of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the semi-finals, losing against Qatar.

Queiroz was welcomed by hundreds of people upon his arrival in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, and thanked locals for their support.
