Flamengo scored one of their most difficult victories in the Brazilian Championship this Thursday night, beating Botafogo 1-0 at Engenhão in a 31st round match. With the result, the red-black team, who played 40 minutes with one more player, reached 74 points, kept eight points ahead of Palmeiras and even threw the carioca rival to the relegation zone, with only 33 points.
The first half was one of the most disputed of the season. With strong marking, the teams played each ball with great intensity, which caused a high number of crusty fouls, forcing referee Leandro Pedro Vuaden to show five yellow cards.
