FIFA wants to price footballers through... an algorithm

Clubs will be able to pay more than the fixed price, but the surplus amount will have a luxury tax rate that will go to a fund intended for football training

That the governing bodies of football intend to control speculation in the transfer market is not new. But the news is that FIFA wants to price the players' passes through an algorithm.

According to El País , President Gianni Infantino created in November of 2017 a working group to control a market that moves more than 6 billion euros per season. To this end, the body responsible for the sport has appealed to Swiss Raffaele Poli and his teammates, Loïc Ravenet and Roger Besson, who since 2010 are developing an algorithm that intends to scientifically estimate the adjusted price of the players.
