Violence and looting spread for the fourth day in a row

Popular uprisings, looting and public violence spread to the eastern region of South Africa's Gauteng province during the early hours of today. It is the fourth day in a row violence is registered.

Although the situation is considered as "relatively calm" by the authorities in the central areas of Johannesburg and Pretoria, incidents were reported in the East Rand (east of Johannesburg), particularly in Katlahong where a primary school and a shopping center were looted and vandalized during the night.

In the same region, several businesses were looted and destroyed at Germiston and a shopping center at Kempton Park was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after alleged armed clashes between South African citizens and Nigerian immigrants.
