The UN secretary-general for climate change warned on Sunday of the impacts of climate change, which "have never been this serious" and should lead the international community to "do much more" to counteract the situation. On the first day of the 24th UN climate conference (COP24) in the Polish city of Katowice, Patrícia Espinosa estimated that this year is "one of the four hottest ever recorded."
"The concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is at a high level and emissions continue to rise," she added. The changes are reaching "communities across the globe," and the "victims, destruction and suffering" are "making work much more urgent," she said.
