Torrential rains cause 16 deaths and more than 100,000 people are evacuated in China

Rescue teams had to use inflatable boats to evacuate thousands of students from a university in the suburbs of Guilin, the capital of Guangxi.

At least 16 people were killed and 10 are missing, while more than 100,000 were evacuated after several days of torrential rains in different parts of central and southern China, Xinhua news agency reported.

Dead and missing people were reported in the Guangxi Autonomous Region, in southern China, where several buildings collapsed, said Xinhua quoting local officials.
