Study finds that women who are victims of violence are 8 times more likely to die prematurely

Ministry of Health data show serious consequences of physical and psychological abuse

Brazilian women exposed to physical, sexual or mental violence have a mortality risk equivalent to eight times higher than that of the female population in general, reveals a novel study based on data from the Ministry of Health.

The survey analyzed around 800,000 reports of violence against women by the health services and 16,500 deaths associated therewith in the period from 2011 to 2016.
