Sonangol's Information Technology (IT) infrastructures were targeted by a cyber attack in the early hours of Thursday. The origin of the attack is still unknown.
According to a statement from the oil company, which ANGOP had access to, the Information Technology Division (DTI) immediately took several precautionary measures to protect critical assets, including shutting down its IT systems and communications.
However, according to Novo Jornal, the hackers would have had access to data from more than seven thousand computers of the oil company. Some oil company officials fear some sensitive data and insider information about the company and its customers, and its misuse may cause serious damage to Sonangol.
The document, quoted by Angop, maintains that the work of restoring infrastructure and replacing critical services will be restored as soon as possible.
