The organization of the Miss Portugal pageant decided to take the crown away from Carla Rodrigues, saying she cannot express her opinions on the political situation in Venezuela.

Carla Rodrigues, Miss Portugal 2018, lost the title and will not represent Portugal in the international competition, to be held in China. All this because she publicly supported the self-proclaimed president of Venezuela Juan Gaidó and called for humanitarian aid to be allowed in the country.

Carla Rodrigues, a 25-year-old Portuguese-Venezuelan journalist, was the representative of the Portuguese community in Spain and was elected Miss Portugal in a beauty pageant held in Gondomar in July 2018. On February 20 she took to Instagram to post a video in which she said she was "worried about the situation in Venezuela and about the people's difficulties in obtaining food and medicine."
