September begins with thermometers near 40 degrees

According to the IPMA, temperatures will be "above average" in September. Only the islands escape the phenomenon.

Last year, two hot flashes made September the hottest ever recorded. Although it is early to know if the phenomenon will repeat itself, it is certain that this year September will also start hot, with temperatures that may reach 40 degrees in some parts of the country, according to forecasts by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

On Monday, the second day of the month, the maximum temperatures will rise significantly. Most locations will be above 30 degrees, but it is in Alentejo that the thermometer will record higher values, ranging from 35 to 40 degrees.
