Pope Francis kisses feet of leaders of Southern Sudan in the Vatican

Francisco has called on leaders of the country to commit to form a unity government on next month.

Pope Francis, in a dramatic gesture following an unprecedented retreat in the Vatican, knelt to kiss the feet of former South Sudanese leaders on Thursday and urged them not to return to civil war.

He appealed to President Salva Kiir, his former deputy and then rebel leader Riek Machar and three other vice presidents to respect the armistice they signed and commit to forming a unity government next month.
