An Irish MP has shown a pair of underwear in parliament to protest the "victim blaming routine" following a rape trial in which the defendant's lawyer used the complainant's underwear to claim that the intercourse had been consented to.

MP Ruth Coppinger Coppinger was putting questions to the Taoiseach on how Irish courts approach sexual assault cases. "It might seem embarrassing to show a pair of tongs here... How do you think a rape victim or a woman feels at the incongruous setting of her underwear being shown in court?"- asked the representative of the left-wing Anti-Austerity - People Before Profit Alliance
