More than 100 tons of oil have been collected in the Northeast, says Salles

In a visit to Sergipe, Minister Ricardo Salles stated that more than 100 tons of oil sludge has already been collected on the beaches of the Northeast. The region suffers from oil stains, still of unknown origin, that has been affecting the beaches since the beginning of September.

The pollutant was identified in a range of more than 2,000 kilometers from the Brazilian coast. Over the weekend, Sergipe's government declared an emergency due to the increase of oil-caused environmental damage. A Sate crisis office was created in the state to follow up the case.
