Meet the 12-year-old who denounced Brazil at the UN

How old do you have to be to become an environmental activist? For someone who has seen the effects of climate change from an early age, 12 years old is enough. Bahia's surfer Catarina Lorenzo attended one of the largest climate protests ever and, along with 15 other young people, including Sweden's Greta Thunberg, signed a complaint against Brazil and four other countries at the UN Committee for the Rights of the Child.

The protest was presented in New York on September 23, just two days after Greta's compelling speech at the UN climate summit, and also targeted Germany, Argentina, France and Turkey.

Together with Brazil, these are the top five pollutants among the 45 signatories to a protocol authorizing minors to sign petitions against violations of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
