Italy is the country of the European Union (EU) that granted the highest number of citizenships to Brazilians in 2017, last year analyzed by Eurostat in a research released on this Wednesday, 10. Italy accounted for 46% of the citizenships granted to Brazilians, corresponding to a total of 9,936.
This is the first time in ten years that the Italian numbers have outperformed the Portuguese. According to the survey, Portugal granted 6,084 citizenships. Spain comes in third with 1,294.
Also according to the study, Brazil is the eighth country in number of citizenships granted by the European Union. In total, 825.447 had the right recognized in 2017.
