Thailand to grant citizenship to coach and three boys rescued from Tham Luang cave

The citizenship process can take up to a decade, but bureaucracy was ignored in the case of the survivors of the northern Thailand cave rescue.

The coach and three of the 13 children who were rescued from Tham Luang cave in June will receive their documents this Wednesday. They arrived in Thailand illegally with their families and lived undocumented.

Following the rescue of the soccer team, which survived for 17 days in a cave, 25-year-old coach Ekkapol Chantawong and players Pornchai Kamluang, Mongkhol Boonpiam and Adul Sam-on were revealed to be among about the 480,000 people living in Thailand illegally.
