Rain raises death toll in São Paulo by 310%

Between December 1, 2018, and April 5, 2019 - the period when it rains the most in the region - the number of deaths caused by rains in the state of São Paulo rose by 310% and reached 41.

From December 1, 2017, to April 5, 2018, the total number of deaths caused by rains was 10. The data were released by the Civil Defense of the State of São Paulo and include Operation Summer, which is held every year.

Seven of the deaths in the last rainy season were caused by lightning; 17 by floods; ten by landslides; four by collapsing structures; and three by other causes.
