The ranking takes into account the number of countries to which the passport allows entry without visa and is done by an international consultant.
Portugal has the sixth most powerful passport in the world in 2019. This means that their holders can enter without a visa in 185 countries, as many as the US, English, Austrian, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian passport holders - and in only five countries less than the Japanese, whose citizens have open borders in 190 countries.
These ranks are part of the last international ranking for 2019 - the Henley Passport Index - which periodically evaluates passports around the world, taking into account the number of countries to which they give access to without having to obtain a visa.
