Police officers have detained two suspects for their alleged involvement in the councilwoman's murder The targets are suspected of heading the 'Crime Bureau', an organization specializing in "hit jobs"
A task force involving the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police and the State Prosecutor's Office is serving today (Jan 22) 13 arrest warrants against militiamen operating in Rio das Pedras, Western Rio. They are accused of land grabbing. Suspects include a Military Police Major and two former Military Police Officers.
At least five people had been detained at 8.20 pm. They are suspected of being involved in the murders of councilwoman Marielle Franco (PSOL) and her driver Anderson Gomes. About 140 police officers were deployed.
