Lethal police violence in Rio reached the highest value of the last 21 years

The actions of the military police have resulted in demonstrations by the residents

The Military and Civil Police of Rio killed 434 people between January and March of this year, according to the Institute of Public Security (ISP-RJ)

There were almost five (4.82) deaths per day, a record marked by the 21-year statistical series that was started in 1998. The number of deaths continues to rise in the current quarter.

Only in four days in May, from Friday the 3rd to Monday the 6th, at least 13 people were killed by the police: four on Borel hill (north), one in Rocinha (south) and eight in the favelas of the Complexo da Maré (northern zone).
