Japan has so many vacant homes that the government is giving them away

Japan's population is shrinking and the country now has more homes than people to live in them The government is offering homes in rural areas.

There are so many vacant homes in Japan that, in order to prevent entire cities from disappearing, the government decided to give them away.

The so-called 'Akiya Banks' (vacant house schemes) have been connecting prospective buyers with empty house owners since 2014.
