Waves up to 12 meters, heavy rain and winds are expected, announced the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
"The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reports that at 21:00 [on Thursday] the center of Hurricane Leslie was located 1,868 kilometers west-southwest of the island of Madeira. The hurricane is moving east-northeast at 35 kilometers per hour", IPMA reports.
According to the document, it is very likely (70 to 90 % probability) that the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo will suffer the effects of the hurricane, starting on 9:00 am on Saturday. "In these conditions, starting from Saturday afternoon, there will be strong winds from the south quadrant with gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour, and in the mountainous regions, the wind will be strong to very strong, with gusts up to 110 kilometers per hour", the report points out.
Waves up to 12-meters high, heavy rain and lightning are also expected.
