Like the National Museum of Natural History, Cipriani Hall has also refused to host the 'Personality of the Year' gala, which will pay homage to Bolsonaro
The news has been reported by Estado de S.Paulo. Located on Wall Street, Cipriani Hall has reportedly refused to host the 'Personality of the Year' event due to pressures from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. The mayor has been making it difficult to hold the gala, held by the Brazil-US Chamber of Commerce, arguing that it would not be possible to guarantee the safety of the ceremony because many social movements are against it.
The Chamber of Commerce had decided on Tuesday to hold the event at Cipriani Hall, following the refusal from the National Museum. According to the newspaper, Bill de Blasio took to social media to applaud that refusal. On Friday, the Democratic Mayor even asked for the gala (scheduled for May 14) to be canceled.
The 'Personality of the Year' award was created 49 years ago and aims to honors two leaders, one from Brazil and one from the US, who contribute to building a closer relationship between the two countries.
On Monday, the Brazil-US Chamber of Commerce also decided that the American awardee would be Mike Pompeo, Donald Trump's secretary of state.
