Hawaii was already threatened in August by a major hurricane. Category 4 Hector eventually passed far from the Big Island

A category 3 hurricane, on a scale of 1 to 5, heads to Hawaii and could affect some islands of the American archipelago in the coming days, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) warned on Monday.

"Hurricane Lane could be a threat to several islands in Hawaii this week," CPHC said in a bulletin at 5 a.m. local time (noon in Brasilia), urging the archipelago to follow the evolution of the hurricane closely.

If the current trajectory forecast is confirmed, a tropical storm or hurricane alert could be issued on Monday night to parts of Hawaii, the center added.
