Brumadinho dam tragedy: death toll rises to 40

According to the Fire Department, over 300 people are missing

The number of people killed in Brumadinho (Minas Gerais) following the rupture of a dam operated by mining company Vale rose to 40. According to the Minas Gerais Fire Department, approximately 300 people are missing and 189 have been rescued alive.

According to firefighters, 100 to 150 people were in the company's administrative area, located near the dam that broke; about 30 were in the region of Vértico village; approximately 35 were staying in Nova Instância Inn; and 100 to 140 were in the Cachoeiras Park area.
