The Attorney General's Office has been investigating allegations that pastors of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) in Angola have been forced to undergo chemical castration and vasectomy.

The information was provided to Angop by Deputy Attorney General Mota Liz. On November 28 a group of bishops and pastors announced the break with Bishop Edir Macedo, accusing the church leader of doctrinal practices contrary to religion, such as the requirement that pastors undergo a vasectomy and the remitting of foreign currency abroad.

A statement signed by more than 300 Angolan bishops and pastors claims that over the past 12 months, the Church's Brazilian leaders - under Edir Macedo's guidance - have forced Angolan pastors to undergo a vasectomy.
