At least 22 people were killed and other 22 were injured in an explosion close to a chemical plant in the northern Chinese city of Zhangjiakou, according to the local authorities.
Local government sources quoted by the Xinhua state news agency reported that the explosion occurred at 00:41 a.m. today (04:41 p.m. in Lisbon this Tuesday) and that the wounded people were transported to the hospital.
The fire that resulted from the explosion that occurred near the Hebei Shenghua Chemical Industry of Zhangjiakou spread to 38 trucks and 12 other vehicles. The CGTN public TV station reported on Twitter that the fire had been controlled.
