Angola: 5% of women have been victims of sexual abuse

At least 5% of Angolan women between the ages of 15 and 49 have already been victims of sexual abuse and hundreds of minors suffer annually from some kind of sexual abuse, according to national data.

The information was advanced this Wednesday, September 25, to the Lusa agency by the director general of the Instituto para a Cidadania Mosaiko (Mosaiko Institute for Citizenship), Friar Júlio Candeeiro, on the sidelines of the international conference on the Role of Justice Systems in Combating Sexual Abuse, that takes place in Luanda.

Júlio Candeeiro said that the data, presented in 2017 by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and in 2018 by the National Institute of Children (INAC), despite reflecting the seriousness of the situation, do not reflect the real number, which is higher.
