Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday before the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, that will be held on April 25-27 in Beijing.
Xi said that leaders from different countries will discuss issues of common interest including the synergy of development policies, infrastructure connectivity and sustainable development under the principle of broad consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits in order to make greater contributions and promote world economic growth and international economic cooperation.
Noting that China and Mozambique have agreed to jointly promote the Belt and Road (C&R) cooperation plan, Xi said both sides should commit to improve the quality and efficiency of cooperation and enhancing cultural and interpersonal exchanges and cooperation, so that the traditional friendship between the two countries can be inherited and carried forward. Nyusi said that the joint construction of C&R is conducive to the economic growth and the balanced development of the world, adding that it is also of great importance to Mozambique and Africa.
Mozambique congratulates the People's Republic of China on its 70th anniversary and is ready to deepen its strategic partnership with China, Nyusi said. Mozambique has the desire to strengthen cooperation with China in a wide range of areas and exchange experiences in state governance, noted Nyusi. Mozambique also wants to play an active role in the joint construction of C&R in the African sub-region, he said. After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
