For the first time a Chinese Head of State visits the European principality. Xi Jinping and Prince Albert II talked about the strengthening of the relations

Xi Jinping is conducting a state visit to Monaco, the first carried out by a Chinese President to the European principality. Noting the affinity between the two peoples, Xi said that since China and Monaco established diplomatic relations more than 20 years ago, the two sides have always treated themselves as equals with sincerity and friendship.

The Chinese president said that China-Monaco relations are developing steadily, with bilateral practical cooperation following the times and take the lead in China-Europe cooperation in the areas of environmental protection, telecommunications and mobile payments.

Xi also noted that China and Monaco have set a good example of friendly exchanges between countries of different sizes and different historical and cultural backgrounds and social systems. The Chinese President said that the exchange of visits between him and Prince Albert II in about half a year demonstrated the high level of China-Monaco ties.

The Chinese head of state called on both sides to firmly grasp the correct direction of the bilateral relations, to constantly consolidate traditional friendship and mutual political trust, and to strengthen communication, coordination and mutual support in the United Nations and in international affairs. Both sides should pursue openness and cooperation and try to achieve more reciprocal gains, said Xi Jinping, adding that China is challenging Monaco to actively participate in the joint development of the "One Track, One Route" project, the new Silk Road.
