President wants to prioritize 'merit' on the basis of qualifications rather than family ties

The president Donald Trump presented on Thursday (16) a plan to reform the US immigration system in order to benefit the young, instructed, English-speaking candidates, instead of persons having family ties with Americans.

Widely criticized by Democrats and immigration groups, the plan aimed to unite Republicans - some who want to boost immigration, others who want to restrict it - and marks the difference of the party concerning the Democrats before the presidential election and next year's parliamentary elections.
