If the Venezuelan president decides not to step down, the US will tighten sanctions, warned Mauricio Claver-Carone, a White House official for Latin America.
The United States announced on Tuesday that they informed Nicolas Maduro's close circle that the Venezuelan president has a "short deadline" to step down, in case he does not intend to face international justice and Washington's new measures.
"The time has come for the United States and the Lima Group countries to offer him [Maduro] a way out at a given time. And if he doesn't, the measures will become much, much stricter," said Mauricio Claver-Carone, a White House official for Latin America, to Efe news agency.
