Superior Court forms majority to reduce sentence, Lula can be released this year

The Superior Court has voted to reduce Lula's sentence in the case involving the triplex apartment in Guarujá (São Paulo), and the former president may even be released later this year.

Ruling on an appeal filed by the former president's attorneys, three of the four judges of the Fifth Superior Court Panel voted today (April 23) to reduce the PT leader's sentence to 8 years, 10 months and 20 days.

The Fourth Region Federal Court had sentenced Lula to 12 years and 1 month in jail on charges of bribery and money laundering.
