President Vladimir Putin is the host of the Russia-Africa Summit, a meeting that reflects Russia's growing ambitions in Africa and which will bring together about 30 African leaders, including the presidents of Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde.

In his 20 years in office, Vladimir Putin has only made three trips to sub-Saharan Africa - and always with South Africa as his main focus - but now it is time to show that African interests take center stage in Moscow's agenda.

Attendees include Angolan President João Lourenço, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, Cape Verdean President Jorge Carlos Fonseca, and São Tomé's Foreign Minister Elsa Pinto.
