Pope Francis had a 55-minute meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday (4).
The meeting was the first official appointment of the Russian leader's one-day visit to Italy. Putin followed directly from Fiumicino Airport, just outside Rome, to the Vatican.
Sitting face to face in the library of the papal apartment, the president and the Pope exchanged only a few smiles as the photographers recorded the meeting and left the room. On the table, Putin had a white paper notebook and a pen to take notes.
