The members of the National Executive of the PSB decided on Tuesday that the party will officially support Fernando Haddad, of the PT, in the second round of the presidential election
The directories of the Federal District and São Paulo, however, were allowed to stand independently. In announcing the decision, the president of the party, Carlos Siqueira, said, however, that the party will charge Haddad with forming a democratic front involving not only political parties but also civil society agents.
"In the difficult moment that the countrylives in, we want the candidacy to become a democratic front. We are not supporting the PT candidate, but who will lead this front to defend democracy," said Siqueira.
The party must also provide Haddad with a document with programmatic guidelines. According to the party's president, PT did not ask for support formally. "We are positioning ourselves because it is the obligation of a party that has a republican life," he said.
