Preparations for the 6th Extraordinary Congress of the MPLA, which is scheduled for September 8, are in progress "at a good pace," said the ruling party in Angola, today.
The indication appears in a statement released, today, by the 14th ordinary meeting of the Political Bureau Secretariat (SBP), chaired by the party's vice-president, João Lourenço, who is also the Angolan head of state. The People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) said that the preparations bode well for a "successful" conclave.
At the congress, José Eduardo dos Santos is expected to leave the party leadership and be succeeded by João Lourenço, similar to what happened with the Presidency of Angola.
The MPLA's SBP also made an evaluation of the final version of the Homage Program draft, which aims to "praise the achievements of Comrade President José Eduardo dos Santos, Architect of Peace and National Unity in Angola."
