Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called upon the Armed Forces, on Saturday, to stand by to defend the country from a possible attack by the United States. This coincided with the opposition leader Juan Guaidó calling for mobilization.
Side by side with the high command and thousands of soldiers, Maduro asked that they "be ready to defend the country with weapons in hand, if the American empire dares touch our land."
"Unity, cohesion, discipline, obedience, subordination are fundamental to the Constitution, the country, the revolution and the legitimate commander-in-chief!"said the president in front of about 5,000 soldiers, mostly cadets.
