Lula is yet to be proven innocent but was released after the Supreme Court ruled that a defendant cannot be arrested before exhausting all appeals.
Former Brazilian president Lula da Silva returned this Saturday (Nov 9) to the Workers' Party's original stronghold, the so-called ABC region in Greater São Paulo, where he delivered another harsh speech against Operation Car Wash prosecutors, former judge Sérgio Moro, and President Jair Bolsonaro.
"I'm back," he said to the applause of party members. "I have more courage to fight now than when I left this place." In the final stretch of his 45-minute speech, he called for resistance, struggle and unity from the left and set the tone for the 2022 election: "The left will defeat the ultra-right that we so want to defeat."
