Lisbon city council has around €300 million to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, a local authority's source told Lusa on Tuesday.

In a report sent to Lusa, a source from the office of PSD councillor Teresa Leal Coelho said that the social democrats presented a proposal "to create a crisis government on Covid-19, to manage the budget" at Lisbon city council, which is "around €300 million".

This amount is intended to "bolster the capacity to respond in the clinical intervention phase and to guarantee immediate and short-term support to families and micro-enterprises operating in Lisbon, which have had to cease or substantially reduce their activity, in addition to immediate urban hygiene measures and [support] for the most vulnerable people".

The €300 million will not be channelled "exclusively for purchases", but will also be used for "measures that have already been adopted by the municipality and in progress", as well as "the measures that will be decided to strengthen the response and also to support families, businesses and social work institutions," the same source explained.
