"Iran seems to be retreating" and the US "are ready to embrace peace"

The US President confirmed that there were no US casualties in the attack, announced new sanctions against Iran and called for further NATO intervention in the region.

"As long as I am the president of the United States, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon," Donald Trump said in a statement from the White House, announcing that there were no US casualties in Iran's early-morning attack on Iraqi bases and that the damage was minimal.

But the US president also said Iran appears to be retreating after the attack. "Iran appears to be standing down, which is a good thing for all parties concerned and a very good thing for the world," he said in a ten-minute statement in which he didn't reply to any question.
