UN welcomes Kabila's decision to resign to a new mandate

The Secretary-General of the United Nations said that President Kabila's decision to resign to a third term as leader of DR Congo is a "progress"

His deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, said in a news conference that the UN took note of the appointment of Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary as the candidate of the ruling coalition.

"We welcome continued progress towards holding free, fair and peaceful elections on 23 December, according to the Constitution", Haq said. Shadary, which is a Former Minister of the Interior, is currently the permanent secretary of the People's Party for the Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD).
