Former East Timor president Taur Matan Ruak has been named as the country's new Prime Minister.
President Francisco Lu-Olo Guterres made the announcement this morning in a decree.
This comes after five weeks after the Alliance of Progress and Change coalition won a majority of 43 in the East Timor"s 65-seat legislature. Taur Matan Ruak"s appointment comes into effect on Friday, June 22.
Former president and prime-minister Xana Gusmão will join the cabinet as Minister Adviser to Prime Minister. This seals the reconciliation between the two men who were bothers-in-arms in the resistance against Indonesian occupation before fell out while Gusmão was prime-minister and Ruak was state president between 2012 an 2015.
